Interim Principal Deb Dorney received a phone call this morning from State Superintendent Jack O'Connell informing her that Rio del Mar Elementary School in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District has earned the state's top honor: 2008 Distinguished School. Rio earned the invitation to apply for the Distinguished School honors based upon criteria including designated federal and state accountability measures including No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and the Academic Performance Index (API) requirements. The Rio community completed the aplication in December, and last week had a validation team verify the application's contents during a full-day site visit and review.
