To All PVUSD Staff
Everyone agrees that it is critical that the District meet its AYP targets this year. The administration developed a LEA Plan last summer, which the Board approved. That plan specified a number of initiatives to improve academic achievement that are now being implemented throughout the District. These initiatives include the implementation of standards based curriculum, pacing, interim assessments and collaboration; focus on ELD and implementation of specific 50/50 bilingual models; targeted professional development with GLAD, SALT, PIE and SWEET; articulation of regular day with extended day programs and the operation of the District Alternative Governance Committee providing direction and oversight to year five PI schools.
With the coming change in administration, it needs to be clear that the Board and Dr. Mays fully support those initiatives and there is no intent to redirect or modify them. In order to provide an orderly transition in administration, Dr. Mays will become involved in all major decisions affecting the operation of the District and there will be regular meetings with the President of the Board, Dr. Mays and the Interim Superintendent. We appreciate the work everyone is doing from the classroom teachers and site leadership to the District administration and we will continue to support those efforts to ensure that our students make the necessary academic progress. Working together, we will make our AYP targets this year!
Signed
