Curriculum and Instruction:  Textbook Adoptions

Our district adopts new textbooks each year in grades K–8 in alignment with the California state textbook adoption calendar (.pdf). (This calendar and related resources are available at the CDE website: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/cf/.) In 2005-06 school year we adopted Social Studies textbooks, in 2006-07 we adopted Science textbooks and in 2007-08, we adopted our current Math textbooks. In 2008–09 the review for the adoption of Language Arts textbooks has been postponed until 2009–2010.

The state of California does not have a formal adoption process for high school textbooks. In PVUSD, the high schools (Aptos High, Pajaro Valley High, Renaissance High, Watsonville High) generally follow the K–8 adoption calendar, ordering new subject-area books during the same year that elementary and middle schools order them.
